PRECIPITINS - serum
Specimen: 10 mL blood in plain
tube.
Method: Gel diffusion; precipitins detected include avian, fungal, thermophilic
actinomycetes.
Reference Interval: Not detected.
Application: Investigation of hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
Interpretation: Precipitating antibodies indicate exposure, and may be found
in asymptomatic individuals. In association with appropriate symptoms, the presence
of antibodies supports the diagnosis of hypersensitivity pneumonitis due to the specific
