MYOGLOBIN - urine

Specimen: Random urine specimen, collected without preservative.

Method: Immunoassay.

Reference Interval: Not detected.

Application: Suspected rhabdomyolysis. Differentiation of myoglobinuria from haemoglobinuria in patients with coloured urine giving a positive reaction to haem.

Interpretation: Increased levels are found in any condition causing significant muscle cell damage. The test is not useful in the assessment of patients with myocardial ischaemia.
