LIVER/KIDNEY MICROSOMAL ANTIBODIES - serum
Specimen:
5 mL blood in plain tube.
Method: IF.
Reference Interval: Consult laboratory.
Application: Assessment of chronic hepatitis.
Interpretation: A positive result is present in a sub-group of autoimmune hepatitis,
associated with a poorer prognosis than the commoner form of autoimmune hepatitis
with positive smooth muscle antibodies. A positive result may also be seen in hepatitis
C infection.
