GLOMERULAR BASEMENT MEMBRANE ANTIBODIES - serum

Specimen: 5 mL blood in plain tube.

Method: Immunoassay, indirect IF. Immunoassay is the preferred method.

Reference Interval: Not detected.

Application: Diagnosis of Goodpasture syndrome . Assessment of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

Interpretation: Glomerular basement membrane antibodies are highly predictive of Goodpasture syndrome; the definitive diagnosis of Goodpasture syndrome requires renal biopsy with IF.
