ENDOMYSIAL ANTIBODIES - serum

Also known as transglutaminase antibodies.

Specimen: 5 mL blood in plain tube.

Method: Indirect IF, immunoassay.

Reference Interval: Consult laboratory.

Application: Diagnosis of coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.

Interpretation: Endomysial antibodies have a specificity of >90% for the diagnosis of coeliac disease. The test should be used in preference to gliadin antibodies for the preliminary assessment of patients with possible coeliac disease.
