DNA ANTIBODIES - serum

Specimen: 5 mL blood in plain tube.

Method: Immunoassay.

Reference Interval: Method dependent - consult pathologist. Commonly <5 IU/mL.

Application: For confirmation of diagnosis or monitoring of SLE. Sensitivity approximately 70%.

Interpretation: High levels are strongly suggestive of active SLE, particularly with renal involvement. Lesser elevations may be found occasionally in other autoimmune disorders.
