ANABOLIC STEROIDS - urine
Specimen: Random urine.
If the test has legal implications, the collection, transfer and storage of the specimen
must be done according to a defined protocol to establish a chain of custody.
Method: GCMS. If the test has legal implications, the laboratory must be registered
with the appropriate authority.
Reference Interval: Not detected.
Application: Detection of covert anabolic steroid use.
Interpretation: Anabolic steroids may be detected in urine for days to weeks
after the last dose, depending on the individual drug and the amount taken. Some
anabolic steroids are metabolised extensively and identification is based on a metabolite
rather than the parent drug.
