ALCOHOLS - plasma

Specimen: 5 mL blood in lithium heparin tube.

Method: Gas chromatography.

Reference Interval: Not detected.

Application: Detection of ingestion of ethanol as well as other alcohols ie methanol, propanol, butanol. This may be suspected because of the history or clinical features.

Interpretation: Detection of the alcohol indicates that it has been ingested. See also ETHANOL.
